CATECHISM 22: GIBSON DIVORCE

Published on: April 17, 2009

Will the Pope excommunicate Mel Gibson for divorcing?

It's what Henry VIII was faced with when he wanted to divorce and remarry when king of England.  His solution - claim annulment (it never "really" happened) start his own church - the Church of England and have more wives.

But Mel who has his own church already - albeit one devoted to the Catholicism is in a bit of a catechism 22.  The Passion of the Christ director and repentant drunken anti-Semite is ready for the world's most expensive divorce from his wife Robyn of 28 years.

According to Mel, Robyn's going to hell anyway because she's Episcopalian

"There is no salvation for those outside the Church," Gibson told the New Yorker in 2003. "I believe it.

"She believes in God, she knows Jesus, she believes in that stuff."

But Mel is such a staunch Catholic that according to multiple sources, he doesn't even accept the modernization of the Catholic Church as dictated by the Second Vatican Council of 1962-1965.

Mel's religious hypocrisy is much like revealing the true Oksana in one of those Russian dolls within dolls - be it Britney, Oksana or Stan from South Park - there's big trouble in Gibson land and Robin is about to go Apocalypto - big time!

BTW: Mel can't actually be excommunicated by the Pope - he's not a Roman Catholic!
