Hollywood legend Barbra Streisand is reeling from a new cancer nightmare!
The National ENQUIRER caught the 73-year-old diva bolting from her Beverly Hills doctor’s office on Oct. 6.
“She was in a panic,” a source told The ENQUIRER. “She’s been putting off a hysterectomy and doctors once again told her she needs to go under the knife.”
“Poor Barbra — she left the office in tears and was crying her eyes out.
“She kept dabbing her face with a hankie and was wearing a big black hat in the hopes that no one would spot her.”
The two-time Oscar winner is fearful of cancer, the source added.
As The ENQUIRER reported in 2004, Barbra had part of her colon removed after a routine screening revealed the presence of polyps.
Since then, she’s undergone regular cancer screenings, but sources said doctors are recommending she undergo the hysterectomy.
“She keeps putting off the surgery,” said the source. “She doesn’t want to do anything until after the holidays, but the fact is Barbra’s scared to death of going under the knife again.”
In 2007, Barbra began experiencing the effects of menopause, including hot flashes, body aches and mood swings, insiders said.
After menopause, women face risks of breast and uterine cancer, as well as cancer of the cervix.
About 10 percent of hysterectomies are performed for cancer.
Adding to her misery, the source said Barbra was particularly upset that husband James Brolin couldn’t find the time to accompany her to the doctor for her recent visit.
“James is working on his new CBS show, ‘Life in Pieces,’ ” said the source. “But Barbra thought he could have taken an hour out of his day to be by her side.”
The ENQUIRER has reported Barbra and James, 75, are headed for a $550 million divorce after years of fighting.
Added the source: “While her and James don’t seem to see eye-to-eye on anything these days, she still wants him there when she’s in trouble.”
