That was the heartbreaking claim of Remigia Brooke – the bitter first wife of Senator Edward Brooke, America’s first black senator, who carried on a scandalous affair with Walters 30 years ago.
"She hated Barbara Walters ’til the day she died,’ a family member told The ENQUIRER.
"She always blamed Barbara for the breakup of their marriage."
Walters, the View star shocked America when she confessed to Oprah Winfrey about her steamy affair which she reveals in her new tell-all memoir Audition.
In the book, Walters writes that when the now 88 year-old Brooke told he she was the oldest woman he’d ever been with, she wanted to say: "Well, you’re the blackest man I’ve ever been with."
She didn’t.
Remigia Brooke’s relative recalled, "She knew Ed was a ladies man but she always said the marriage might have been saved if it weren’t for Barbara Walters."
