Barbara Walters, co-host of The View reveals in her tell-all memoirs Auditions she had an affair in the 1970s with a Massachusetts senator that nearly ruined both their careers.

Walters, 78, was then toiling for the Today how when she met and had a steamy affair with Senator Edward Brooke, the first black senator since the post-Civil War Reconstruction.

Brooke was so smitten with Babs he told his wife he wanted a divorce.   She was so enraged she threatened to blow the whistle to The ENQUIRER.

Needless to say, with Senator Brooke up for reelection and with her news job imperiled, Walters decided to write finis to the affair.

Walters wrote in her tell-all tome, "Would such a marriage destroy his career?  Would it destroy mine?"

Alas, we’ll never know.
