THERE’s new trouble brewing between ANGELINA JOLIE and her dad JON VOIGHT!
The “Maleficient” beauty thinks he’s setting a terrible example for his grandkids with his role in the Showtime series “Ray Donovan.”
A source says that while the Oscar-winning actress is proud of the critical praise – and Golden Globe award – her dad has received for his portrayal of “Mickey Donovan” – a racist, homophobic, murderous thug – she’s forbidden her six kids from tuning in. What more, she’s terrified the bad-guy role is going to rub off on him!
“Angelina just doesn’t think that this is an appropriate character for her kids to see,” said a source close to Angelina and her partner Brad Pitt, 50. “Mickey Donovan is a loathsome, amoral creep who’s also a boozehound and drug user.”
The 38-year-old actress, who’s endured a tortured relationship with Voight, believes this is yet another reason for keeping him at arm’s length. In fact, a family insider reveals that the 75-year-old actor hasn’t seen his grandchildren – Maddox, 12, Pax, 10, Zahara, 9, Shiloh, 7, and 5-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne – for months.
On “Ray Donovan,” Liev Schreiber stars as a professional fixer for the rich and famous in Hollywood. Voight plays Ray’s father Mickey, a criminal just released from a 20-year prison stretch.
“He’s a bad guy,” Voight told a reporter last year. “He’s a mess.”
In an episode in Season 1, the show ended with Voight’s character dancing in a gay bar while snorting the drug amyl nitrate “poppers.” He’s also been spotted on set carrying bottles of alcohol.
And on Jan. 31, Voight was snapped on location in Cozumel, Mexico, walking along the beach with a bottle of Mezcal, a potent Mexican liquor similar to tequila and a cigarette in the other.
While critics and fans have been showering Voight with praise for his work, a source says Angelina thinks the role may bring out the worst in him.
“He’s tapped into dark aspects of his own character and, for Angelina, seeing that has brought painful memories flooding back,” said the source. “It’s reopened old wounds and put more strain on their already tense relationship.
“What’s worse, it’s become another reason for Angie to keep Jon away from his grandkids.”
After years of tension and estrangement, it seemed as if father and daughter had buried the hatchet in 2011. But then she didn’t even tell him about her double mastectomy last year.
“The fact is that, deep down, Angelina doesn’t truly trust him,” added the source. “And his new character is a terrible role model.”
