60 Minutes vet, that cranky old man of TV, ANDY ROONEY, 92, says adios amigos.

After more than 1000 broadcasts, Andy Rooney  will make his last appearance on this Sunday's 60 Minutes.

A fixture on the long running newsmag since 1978, Rooney will make the announcement himself on the air, The ENQUIRER has learned.

Andy’s last round up will feature a senses-shattering diatribe to last the ages and will be preceded by a career retrospective with fellow TV journo Morley Safer.

"There’s nobody like Andy and there never will be," Jeff Fager, CBS News chairman and 60 executive producer said.

"He’ll hate hearing this, but he’s an American original.”

Rooney began his news career in 1942 as a correspondent for the U.S. War Department newspaper Stars and Stripes during WW2.

"I obviously have a knack for getting on paper what a lot of people have thought and didn't realize they thought," Rooney said in an interview.

"And they say, `Hey, yeah!' And they like that."
