It’s the dirty little secret behind the box office hit, “American Sniper!”

The movie’s hero, ex-Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, died due to a profound series of screw-ups by government officials who failed to adequately treat the veteran who killed him.

Chris, portrayed by Bradley Cooper, is the most lethal sniper in U.S. history, credited with 160 confirmed kills.

On Feb 2, 2013, he was shot and killed at a Texas gun range by Marine Corps. veteran Eddie Ray Routh, who was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder [PTSD].

Now The National ENQUIRER can reveal the truth behind what led Routh to kill the hero.

“I would say Routh was probably suffering from schizophrenia or maybe some major psychotic disorder PTSD exacerbated,” Dr. Mitch Abrams, Psy.D., told The ENQUIRER.

After Routh left active duty, he spent three weeks at the Dallas VA hospital, and was released with “one of those gallon baggies” with eight medications that “made Eddie worse,” his father, Raymond, said.

He reportedly made two more visits to the Dallas VA, and both times doctors cut him loose over his parents’ objections. Routh now faces two counts of capital murder.

Said Dr. Abrams: “This is society’s dirty little secret. We have to become more concerned with the safety of society than the civil rights of psychiatric patients with severe mental illness who threaten violence. We have people who are seriously ill and it’s very hard to get them treated because we’ve become so liberal on the topic.”
