ALEX KARRAS DEAD

ALEX KARRAS, 77, best known for playing dimwit MONGO in Mel Brooks’ classic “BLAZING SADDLES”  has died.

Karras, a former NFL great with the Detroit Lions, suffered kidney failure in the past two weeks and his physicians believe he only has days to live.

He had left Santa Monica hospital and was receiving hospice care at home.

Karras recently joined a class action lawsuit against the NFL, claiming he now suffers from dementia abecause of his long career with the  Lions.

He had also been battling cancer.

After hanging up his cleats he attained comedy stardom as Mongo in “Blazing Saddles”.

Karras was also  familiar face across the TV landscape and a stitcom star on the 1980s sitcom ”Webster" with Emanuel Lewis and hundreds of movies and TV shows.

He also briefly wrestled professionally.

Karras is survived by his wife actress and frequent costar Susan Clark.
