Al Gore III, the son of An Inconvenient Truth‘s (and former US Vice President) Al Gore, was arrested and released from jail on Wednesday, July 4, for speeding a California highway and for suspicion of possessing marijuana and prescription drugs.

“We’re glad that he’s safe and that he’s getting treatment and we’re going to leave it as a family matter,” Gore Sr. said in an interview on NBC’s Today show. The environmentalist was promoting July 7’s Live Earth concerts.

According to police, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies spotted the younger Gore’s blue Toyota Prius going more than 100 miles per hour and when they stopped him, they smelled marijuana. Cops searched the car and allegedly found pot and prescription drugs including Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall. Gore junior did not have prescriptions for any of the drugs, according to police.
