JOHN TRAVOLTA‘s new baby boy Benjamin is not just a dream come true – his joyous arrival came just in time to save his marriage to Kelly Preston following a devastating secret split, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.
The couple’s 19-year relationship never recovered from the heartbreaking death of their beloved teenage son Jett in January 2009 – and the loss tore them apart, say insiders.
They plunged into a series of explosive fights.
And after one bitter blowup, a furious Kelly stormed out on John with 10-year-old daughter Ella in tow – and fled to the home of a Florida friend, The ENQUIRER learned.
The marriage floundered for about a year afterward – until the miracle pregnancy of 48-year-old Kelly and the joyous Nov. 23 birth of the couple’s little boy, reveal insiders.
"Baby Benjamin saved John and Kelly’s marriage," a family friend told The ENQUIRER.
"The grief over Jett had completely polarized the couple, and they came very close to splitting for good."
Under the surface of their seemingly happy marriage, the Travoltas had been dealing with differences that threatened to tear them apart.
The two had long been at odds on what to do after Jett was diagnosed with autism – an ailment not recognized as genuine by John’s Scientology faith.
"Their different views on Jett’s condition put a huge strain on the marriage," revealed the friend.
"John never seemed fully able to accept the diagnosis.
"Kelly felt his awkwardness was apparent and greatly impacted the father-son relationship."
