The kidnap victim who disappeared 18 years ago was the sex-slave of a convicted child molester.
Eleven year old Jaycee Lee Dugard, was snatched from a South Lake Tahoe street in 1991, and then held captive in her suspected abductor's suburban backyard compound less than 200 miles from her childhood home.
Investigators say that during her years of imprisonment, her abductor raped her, fathering two children with the victim, the first born when the Dugard was 14. The two girls, 11 and 15, also were held captive, hidden away in a secret backyard compound.
The alleged abductor Phillip Garrido, 58, is being investigted on charges of s kidnapping and sex charges. Law enforcement authorities say wife, Nancy Garrido, 54, aided and abetted and has also been arrested.
The cold case broke when Garrido was questioned after acting suspiciously when handing out religious tracts at the Berkley campus of the University of California accompanied by two children. A quick check determined he was on parole for prior child molestation charges and cops contacted the Garrido's parole officer.
When Garrido appeared for a parole meeting accompanied by the kidnap victim Jaycee Lee Dugard, his wife, and the two children, he finally admitted to kidnapping Dugard in 1991.
Garrido and his wife are being held on $1 million bond each. He is to be officially charged today with rape and kidnapping, while she will be hit with charges of conspiracy.
