OCTO-MOM TRADEMARKS SELF

Nadya Suleman wants to be a brand name in the worst way possible. If she's not having kids by the cartload, she's worming her way into the nauseated hearts and minds of America

And now the Angelina wanna-be wants to be a brand name, having filed for a trademark with the US Patent Office.

Does this mean news media wont be allowed fair usage of the "Octomom" moniker once it's applied to brands of tot apparel and test tubes or will media be able to circumvent royalties by hypen-hateing the Suleman tag in the tradition of the Amazing Spider-Man?

"Trademarks are intended to identify the source of goods and services," Nadya's barrister who filed the request said.

"In some cases two very different goods can have the same name as long as it doesn't confuse the consumer or lead someone to think both products refer to the same person. The test is always: Would it confuse someone?"

Don't know - let's ask Kleenex and Xerox whose brand names became synonmous for tissues and copying.
