Enquirer first! Mel Gibson's long suffering wife Robyn finally files for divorce months after we first reported it would happen!! 

ENQUIRER readers knew that the long suffering Robyn had had enough weeks back in November 2007 when the ENQUIRER first reported the pending divorce over Mel's  cheatin' ways  and their long standing battle over Mel's booze binges and fits of rage!

 Ironically, she filed the divorce paper on The Passion of the Christ director the day before Good Friday at LA County Superior Court!

According to a family friend, the couple did not sign a prenup when they wed in Australia in June 1980.

But according to California law, she's entitled to half Mel's $1 billion fortune!

She appears to have the upper hand in this looming clash of the titans as Robyn's lawyer is  Laura Wasser, who's handled divorces for both Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears!

"Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so," Robyn and Mel Gibson said in an issued press statement.
