Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been locked in a tug-of-war — over baby Suri!

While Tom has been demanding a Church of Scientology naming ceremony for their 3-month-old daughter, Catholic Katie is insisting that she be baptized as a Catholic.

The stalemate has given way to a grand compromise: Suri will be welcomed onto the planet in an intimate Scientology ceremony — then christened in a traditional Catholic service.

"Since before the child was born, Tom has been planning Suri's role within the church. He's been talking to a top Scientology official about the baby naming ceremony he wants," an insider revealed.

"Tom was adamant about Suri going through the ceremony. Katie really didn't have any input into the decision.

"But Katie put her foot down and made it clear she wants her family to be able to celebrate Suri in her original religion, as well as Tom's Scientology family."
