Dana Reeve‘s father has spoken to The National Enquirer after his daughter confirmed our exclusive report that she has been diagnosed with lung cancer.

Retired cardiologist, Dr. Charles Morosini, 72, predicts that Dana will beat the disease.

Dr. Morosini told The National Enquirer today: “She’s tough and she’ll get through this with her usual grace and resilience.

“She’s a brave lady.”

Dana’s dad said that as a testament to her late husband Christopher Reeve, Dana has taken up the battle for stem cell research begun by the Superman star.

Dr. Morosini told The National Enquirer: “I’m hoping that now she’ll be the poster girl for lung cancer when she survives this ordeal.”

In a statement issued by the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, which Dana chairs, the 44-year-old actress/singer acknowledged yesterday that she is undergoing treatment for the deadly disease.

The National Enquirer posted an exclusive website story Monday evening revealing that she was diagnosed with lung cancer.

In confirming the diagnosis, Dana said she’s battling for her life with the same strength displayed by her heroic husband.

“Now, more than ever, I feel Chris with me as I face this challenge,” Dana said. “As always, I look to him as the ultimate example of defying the odds with strength, courage and hope in the face of life’s adversities.”

When Dana was diagnosed with lung cancer in late June, she was still reeling from a one-two punch of grief that has struck her in less than a year.

Christopher died last October 10, after bravely battling the paralysis caused by a horseback riding accident in 1995. Then, on February 10, Dana’s beloved mom, Helen, 71, died from complications of ovarian cancer surgery.
