Rob Thomas, the
hunky lead singer of
the hit band Matchbox
Twenty, has
denied allegations
posted on the internet
that outrageously claim he had
sex with Tom Cruise. Rob even
went so far as to say that if he was
gay, Tom wouldn't be at the top of
his list — Brad Pitt would be!
For several weeks, internet blog
sites have posted a false e-mail that
alleges the 33-year-old musician
slept with Tom shortly before the actor
started dating his fiancée, Katie
Holmes, in May.
The message also suggested their
supposed gay tryst was the real reason
behind the whirlwind pace at which
Tom, 43, conducted his public
courtship of the Dawson's Creek star.
It said Rob's wife Marisol "found
her husband in bed with Tom
Cruise, causing Cruise's people to
shift into high gear."
It also stated: "Mrs. Rob Thomas
was bought off for an undetermined
sum" and that "Cruise and
his handlers set out to immediately
find Cruise a girlfriend" in the
hope of killing off any subsequent
gay rumors.
The unbelievable message went
on to claim "second-tier" actresses,
including Jessica Alba and Lindsay
Lohan, had also been
"targeted" by Tom but that the actor
was only able to "strike a deal"
with Katie Holmes, 26.
The married singer kept quiet
for several weeks before finally
confirming he had not had sex
with the War Of the Worlds star.
Thomas has been surrounded
by rumors of bisexuality and admits
he has "no problem" being
labeled homosexual.
Rob also made fun of Cruise's
strict devotion to Scientology, the
controversial L. Ron Hubbard religion
and said: "I'm more offended
by the rumors saying I'm a Scientologist."
Cruise's sister, Lee Anne Devette,
who also acts as the star's publicist,
did not return calls for comment.
