“NO PLACE LIKE HOME” JUDY GARLAND OZ RUBY REDS FOR SALE
Famed ruby red slippers JUDY GARLAND wore as Dorothy in “The WIZARD of OZ” are on the auction block – again!
A pair of the iconic ruby red slippers is up for auction with an estimated price of $2 - $3 million.
California auction house Profiles in History which is brokering the sale said the slippers -- one of four known surviving pairs made for the 1939 MGM classic -- are said to have been worn by Dorothy when she clicks her heels to return home to Kansas at the film’s end.
The slippers are being put on the block December 16 in Los Angeles and Profiles in History owner Joe Maddalena told media he was expecting bids from all over the world.
"This is the most important film prop in the world. There is nothing more famous," he enthused.
"They are one of the greatest pieces of pop culture in existence."
One pair of the ruby red slippers is housed in the Smithsonian Museum, one is in possession of a private collector and the other was stolen from the Judy Garland museum in Minnesota.
Actress Debbie Reynolds sold her pair of test red slippers in auction in May for $612,000.
