Britney Spears was actually sober when she got into a fender bender over the weekend.

The troubled pop tart was stuck in stop-and-go California suburban traffic when her Mercedes-Benz slammed into another car in early Saturday night.

As paparazzi swarmed the Brit, she sat patiently waiting for cops to sort things out.  With a long history of alcohol and substance abuse, Brit was no doubt smashed.

But surprise when Spears was given the breath test, she was 100% sober.

Police said they tested the pop star because of the accident – not because of her reputation.

After her release with the body guard now driving, Brit joined mom Lynne for dinner in West Hollywood.
