Mired at the bottom, Carly went note-for-note with Syesha Mercado as the American public cast their votes -- all 38 million of them.

Simon Cowell told the  gracious loser, “You can leave with your head held high.” 

And Paula Abdul chimed in, telling Carly,  “This is only  the beginning for you.”

With potential Idols down to five, there’s the Davids Question - is David Cook unstoppable?  Or is David Archuleta a wild card?
