CRAIGSLIST KILLER!
One of the most popular
Internet sites has
suddenly turned
deadly - used as
a vehicle to lure a young
woman to her death.
Katherine Ann Olson
answered an ad posted
on Craigslist, the ninth
most visited Web site
in the United States
and the name brand
in Internet classified
advertising. But instead of
finding a job, Olson found
a monster who murdered
her.
"There is no sense
to her death. She was a
talented, bright young
woman and her life is gone - and there is no
explanation for it," said Pat Ciliberto, a seasoned
prosecutor who has seen a lot but is still shaken
by Olson's murder.
Why did Michael John Anderson allegedly lure
the preacher's daughter to her death by placing a
phony ad for a baby sitter on Craigslist?
"There was no evidence of sexual assault," adds
Ciliberto, the county attorney for Scott County,
Minn., where the 24-year-old recent college
graduate was murdered.
The shooting death shocked the quiet town
of Savage, outside Minneapolis, and stunned
Craigslist founder Craig Newmark.
"I can't recall a single case like it," said
Newmark. "This is a real tragedy."
Craigslist generates about $55 million in
annual revenue. Although the site has been
hit with relatively minor scandals, including
prostitutes allegedly using it to advertise, this
is apparently the first time a Craigslist ad has
turned deadly.
